As an employer you must keep records for SMP. these records
include:
- proof of pregnancy
- the date SMP started
- the SMP payments (including dates)
- any weeks you didn't pay SMP and why

Statutory maternity pay
Statutory maternity pay is the pay that is given to a mother
to be. SMP can be paid up to 39 weeks and can be taken before the baby is due.
There are 4 factors that qualify someone for SMP, these are:
- evidence of pregnancy
- give a good enough notice
- worked long enough
- earned enough
